COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — Saint Mary's University men's soccer coach Chris Dembiec was at a loss for words following Saturday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against Saint John's.

A quick look at the box score, however, can sum up the Johnnies' performance in one word — dominating.

SJU erupted for four second-half goals in handing the Cardinals a 6-0 conference setback.

"What can you say, Saint John's just took it to us in every facet of the game," said Dembiec, whose team fell to 0-8-0 in the MIAC and has now lost its last 13 straight MIAC games, dating back to a 2-0 win over Concordia on Sept. 30, 2006. "(Saint John's) is a big, strong, fast team that can run through you, and at times today, it felt like they did just that — ran through us."

The Johnnies held SMU without a shot in the first half, while peppering SMU goalkeeper Jon Szafranski (Barrington, Ill.) with eight first-half shots — including goals by Justin Swierk and Levi Lowell. And SJU did take its foot off the gas in the second half, either, tacking on four more goals, including the second of the game by Lowell, in handing SMU its eighth shutout loss of the season.

"We're pretty banged up right now, and that certainly didn't help us," said Dembiec, noting that injuries have depleted his bench so much that he finished Saturfday's game with just two available substitutes. "I think our goal right now (heading into the final three games of the season) is to just survive."
