DECORAH, Iowa — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team's approach to the 2007 season has been a simple one — the Cardinals don't want to make things too easy, and they don't want to make things too hard.
In the opening match of the Luther Invitational Friday, the Cardinals needed four games to get past Mount Mercy — marking the seventh time For the seventh time in their nine victories that the Cardinals have won by a 3-1 score.
Not too easy, and not too hard.
SMU was at it again in their second match, battling host Luther to a 3-1 decision — unfortunately for SMU, this time around, the Cardinals were on the losing end.
Alex Nold (Spring Valley, Minn.) posted a match-high 13 kills to lead the way for SMU in the opener.
Sarah Gardner (Rochester, Minn.) and
Jessica Mate (St. Charles, Ill.) each chipped in 11 kills, while
Jessica Larson (Pine Island, Minn.) finished with 10 kills and
Rachel Monterastelli (Wonder Lake, Ill.) dished out 45 assists.
Nold again led the charge against Luther, pounding out 19 kills, while Mate chipped in 10.
