ST. PETER, Minn. — Saint Mary's University freshman Amy Sibik (Onalaska, Wis.) has been one of the engines that has made the Cardinal offense go.

And Wednesday afternoon against Gustavus was no different, as Sibik netted her ninth goal of the season — and fifth in SMU's last three games.

Unfortunately, as the Cardinals' engine rolled full-steam ahead, the rest of the team was derailed, as Gustavus netted a pair of second-half goals to hand SMU a 2-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback.

"I don't know what to say," said SMU coach Chris Dembiec. "We played so well in the first half, and then we came out in the second and just fell flat. We couldn't seem to do anything right (in the second half) — we made to tactical errors and (Gustavus) capitalized on them."

Sibik put the Cardinals on the board eight minutes into the opening half, beating GAC goalkeeper Chelsea with an unassisted tally.

That, however, would be the extent of the SMU offensive attack — and the Gusties were just getting warmed up.

Jenna Iaizzo buried a rebound off a shot by Callie Christensen to knot the game at 1-1 six minutes into the second half, and Ashley Voigtlander tallied her first goal of the season in the game's 82nd minute to seal the GAC victory.

"This is definitely a disappointing loss," said Dembiec, whose team fell to 2-2-0 in the MIAC and 7-2-0 overall. "I just don't have an answer for what happened in that second half — we were in total control (in the first half, and then everything just fell apart."
