LA CROSSE, Wis.. — Fresh off a 3-1 performance at the Ripon Tournament, the Saint Mary's University volleyball team picked up right where it left off Wednesday, as the Cardinals ran their winning streak to three straight with a 3-1 (31-29, 25-30, 30-27, 30-22) victory over UW-Stevens Point in the opening match of the Viterbo Triangular.

Things didn't go quite as well in the teams' second match, however, as SMU fell to host Viterbo 3-1.

"We played very well last weekend, and really didn't miss a beat (against the Pointers)," said SMU coach Mike Lester, whose team was manhandled by UW-Stevens Point 3-0 during last year's Viterbo Triangular. "The best part of our performance (against the Pointers) was that we got solid performances from some people who we haven't heard from yet this year."

Including Sarah Gardner (Rochester, Minn.) and Jessica Mate (St. Charles, Ill.). Gardner collected a match-high 16 kills vs. UW-Stevens Point, while Mate tallied 13 kills, six aces and 16 digs. Pam Stanton (Mundelein, Ill.) finished with eight kills and 11 digs — playing in just the final two games of the match — and #Rachel  Monterastelli#  (Wonder Lake, Ill.) enjoyed her second 50-plus assist performance in SMU's first five matches, dishing out 54 assists and collecting 15 digs.

"We're playing very well right now," said Lester, whose team returns to action on Friday, playing host to both Luther and North Park during the opening day of the two-day Jefferson Sugar Loaf Classic.. "Hopefully we can just keep it going."
