MANKATO, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's soccer team entered Wednesday's nonconference game against Bethany Lutheran having outscored its first two opponents this season 11-1.

The Cardinals left the Vikings' home turf having outscored their first three opponents 14-1.

Kendra Maloney (Green Bay, Wis.) netted a pair of goals — both assisted by Bridgette Baggio (Glenview, Ill.) — to lead SMU to a 3-0 victory over Bethany Lutheran.

"We turned in a dominating performance," said SMU coach Chris Dembiec, whose team pushed its winning streak against nonconference foes to 20 straight with its third straight win this season. "But what I like about tonight was, despite the way we controlled the play for most of the game, (Bethany Lutheran) never let down — they challenged us for every 50-50 ball and just kept coming at us.

"We played well," Dembiec added. "The ladies moved the ball well, they created some great offensive opportunities, and they capitalized on a number of them."

Maloney and Baggio were a two-person wrecking crew for the Cardinals, as the duo teamed up 16 minutes into the opening half, then hooked up once again 45 seconds into the second half to give SMU a 2-0 advantage. Lisa Tlougan (Rochester, Minn.) closed out the scoring for the Cardinals, netting her second goal in as many games off a free kick at the 66-minute mark.

"Everyone's feeling pretty good about where we're at right now, but they also know they can't afford to get complacent," said Dembiec, whose team returns to action with a nonconference tilt against Northland at home on Saturday. "We know that the road is going to get a lot tougher.

"But to be honest, if we play like we did tonight, we're going to be just fine — no matter who we play."
