LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Saint Mary's University women's hockey team entered Saturday's game searching to put together its first two-game winning streak of the season.

They didn't quite get there.

Instead, the Cardinals settled for their first two-game unbeaten streak of the season, as Ingrid Klockars (Wheaton, Ill.) and Amy Zimniewicz (River Falls, Wis.) scored second-period goals in helping SMU to a 2-2 nonconference tie against Lake Forest.

Lake Forest got on the board first, as Lynn Switay netted her fifth goal of the season, beating SMU goalie Brittany Lemke (St. Charles, Ill.) at the 6:46 mark. SMU responded with back-to-back goals from Klockars and Zimniewicz — the first of her collegiate career — two minutes apart midway through the period, before the Forester's Laura Wilson closed out the scoring just 17 seconds after Zimniewicz had given the Cardinals their 2-1 lead.

Lake Forest held SMU to just 23 shots on goal — 10 of which came in the second period — while the Foresters pelted Lemke with 38 shots.

SMU, which falls to 2-6-1 overall, and Foresters square off again Saturday in the final game of the teams' two-game nonconference series.
