Tonight's game is the season opener for the Cardinals, who are coming off a 9-14-2 season a year ago. … St. Scholastica, meanwhile, opened its 2008-09 season last Saturday, falling to UW-Eau Claire 4-1.

Last Meeting: Just a day after giving up the game-tying goal in the game's final 1:48 of a 4-4 tie vs. UW-Superior a year ago, the Cardinals raced out to a 4-1 first-period lead against St. Scholastica, only to give up six unanswered goals in falling 7-4.

His 31 points marked the first time an SMU player cracked the 30-point barrier since current assistant coach Lenny Hofmann posted 33 points during the 2003-04 season. … An honorable-mention All-MIAC pick and a member of the MIAC's All-First Year team as a freshman, Bohn was SMU's respresentative on the All-MIAC First Team last season. … Freshman #Mike Glaesmer# (Traverse City, Mich.) finished as the team's goal leader (15) and was second, along with sophomore Morgan Shepherd (Brainerd, Minn.), in points with 26. … Glaesmer's 10 goals in 16 conference games were tops among MIAC freshmen. … Glaesmer — named to the MIAC and USCHO.com All-Rookie teams last season — and Shepherd were two of three SMU players with 10 or more goals, while Bohn and Shepherd were two of five with at least 10 assists. … The trio was also three of 12 SMU players with 10 or more points. … Dan Smith appeared in all 25 games for the Cardinals during his senior season last year, compiling a 3.01 goals-against-average and an  .890 save percentage. … Thirty-three of SMU's 91 goals came on the powerplay . … The Cardinals won just once in 13 tries when their opponent scored first (1-10-2).

Saint Notes: Last Saturday's loss to UW-Eau Claire extended St. Scholastica's winless streak vs. the Blugolds to four straight. … UW-Eau Claire has beaten the Saints in the teams' season opener in each of the last two years. … Joey Martini scored the Saints' lone goal vs. UW-Eau Claire midway through the third period. … Steve Bounds, who appeared in 14 games and posted a 2.34 goals-against-average and a .908 save percentage a year ago, kicked out 32 UW-Eau Claire shots last Saturday. … St. Scholastica was picked to finish sixth in the NCHA, according to the NCHA Preseason Coaches' Poll. … This year's Saints squad includes 10 seniors — including the team's two-time leadering scorer, A.J. Tucker — and nine juniors. … Tucker led the team in scoring a year ago with 15 goals, 17 assists and 32 points. He was one of eight CSS players with at least 10 points during the 2007-2008 season. … CSS faces four Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams in the next two weekends — Saint Mary's and St. Thomas this weekend and Augsburg and Hamline next weekend — before opening NCHA play against UW-River Falls on Nov. 14.
