NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's basketball team has been in its fair share of nailbiters of late.
Of their previous 12 games, 10 have been decided by nine points of less.
There was no nailbiting Saturday afternoon, however.
Unless of coach, you count Cardinal head coach
Mandy Pearson biting her fingernails in frustration.
The Cardinals — who were coming off a 58-55 loss to Gustavus on Wednesday — were no match for Carleton, which locked up its eighth straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff berth — jumping out to a 40-20 halftime lead and rolled to an 84-41 victory over SMU.
"We did not shoot the ball the way we need to," said Pearson. "We had some good looks, we just couldn't get the ball to drop.
"Carleton made life pretty difficult for us today."
Hannah Oken Berg scored a game-high 21 points for Carleton, while
Jess Weisbrod (Rollingstone, Minn.) — needing 16 points to reach 1,000 for her career — cut that gap in half, scoring 10 points to pace the Cardinals.
