ABERDEEN, S.D. — The beginning was the same, but this around, the ending was better.

Much better.

Cristian Reyes (Goshen, Ind.) scored his second goal of the game with 57 seconds left in the first overtime to lift the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team to its first win of the season, a 3-2 nonconference victory over Presentation Saturday.

"This was a big win for us — especially because we had to come from behind to do it," said SMU coach Chris Dembiec, whose team suffered a 5-1 season-opening loss to UM-Morris on Friday. "I thought we came out and played very well early (against UM-Morris), but then our intensity level kind of fell off the table. (Against Presentation) we started strong and just kept building off that."

Just like Friday, the Cardinals got on the board first against Presentation, as Reyes netted his first of the season to give SMU a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Unfortunately, just like Friday, the Cardinals also gave up that lead as the Saints scored a pair of unanswered goals to take a 2-1 lead.

This time around, SMU had the answer, as Steve Boussie (Troy, Mich.) knotted the game at 2-2 with a penalty kick goal late in the second half, setting up Reyes' OT heroics.

"I'm proud of the way this team battled back," said Dembiec. "On Friday, we gave up that early lead and kind of folded up a bit. But today, we fell behind 2-1 and never stopped battling.

"Offensively, we were pretty impressive," added Dembiec, noting that the Cardinals actually had two goals called back do to offsides calls and also hit the pipe twice. "We struggled to score goals (last season), so for us to generate the type of offense we did today is encouraging."
