Game Summary vs. Ripon /
GameDay Online
RIPON, Wis. — It wasn't a work of art.
In fact, according to Saint Mary's University women's soccer coach Eric Zimmerman, isn't wasn't all that pretty at all.
It was, however, a win.
And when you team had not been in the win column in more than 23 days — a span of six games — that's really all that matters.
Bethany Kaufman (
Green Bay, Wis.) scored the game's only goal, off an assist from
Keirra Metcalfe (Pickering, Ontario), as the Cardinals slipped past Ripon 1-0 Sunday in a nonconference game.
"We needed this one," said Zimmerman, whose team entered Sunday's contest mired in a six-game winless streak (0-5-1), including back-to-back conference losses to Gustavus (last Wednesday) and Concordia (Saturday). We'd been playing fairly well, but we weren't getting the end result that we needed.
"Today, I wouldn't say it was all that pretty of a win, but it's a win just the same — and right now, that's all that matters."
The Cardinals, who improve to 4-5-1 overall, return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday, traveling to Northfield, Minn., to take on Carleton in a 4 p.m. contest.
