Last Action:
The Cardinals returned to action last Saturday, concluding its nonconference schedule with a 82-58 loss to NCAA Division II St. Cloud State. … Saint John's, meanwhile, picked up its fifth straight victory, dropping the University of Chicago, 64-61, on Dec. 14.

Last Meeting: The Johnnies swept the teams' season series a year ago. SJU boasted four players in double figures and shot 64 percent from the field, as the Johnnies overcome a 7-0 game-opening Cardinal run to beat SMU 80-77 at the SMU Gym on Dec. 1. The Cardinals, who fell behind by 10, 34-24, at the break, could not cut into the Johnnies' lead over the final 20 minutes, as SJU rode a 41-37 scoring edge to seal the 75-61 win in the teams' second meeting on Jan. 26 in Collegeville, Minn.

Cardinal Notes: After opening their conference schedule with a 67-65 win over Macalester on Dec. 3, the Cardinals have dropped their last three MIAC games, including that Dec. 10 102-64 loss to St. Thomas. … SMU's matchup against St. Cloud State marked the second time this season the Cardinals have faced an NCAA Division II team. The Cardinals also dropped a 92-66 decision to defending national champion Winona State in their season opener. … Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-high 15 points in SMU's loss to St. Cloud State.
