EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Saint Mary's University track and field coach Shawn McMahon called the Cardinals' first two meets “low-key.”
Chris Fisette (Elmhurst, Ill.), however, must not have gotten the message.
Fisette was anything but low-key at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational Friday, as the Cardinal senior equaled the school record in the long jump — winning the event with a leap of 6.76 meters — to lead the Cardinal men to a fourth-place finish.
Fisette also chipped in a ninth-place effort in the 55, stopping the clock in 6.88, while
Curt VanAsten (Shiocton, Wis.) chipped in a ninth in the 55 hurdles (8.78). Other men's highlights included a sixth-place showing by
Marty Howard (Chicago, Ill.) in the 800 (2:06.15) and a sixth-place time of 9:30.45 by
John Vallez (Eagan, Minn.) in the 3000.
On the women's side,
Emily Dee (Racine, Minn.) placed ninth in the 3000 (11:34.83),
Ashley Acosta (Winnebago, Minn.) was 12th in the 800 (2:36.40) and
Sara Harstad (Chatfield, Minn.) placed 12th in the weight throw (11.70 meters) to lead the Cardinals to a sixth-place showing.
The Cardinals are back in action Saturday, Jan. 31, traveling to Menomonie, Wis., to take part in the UW-Stout Open.
