Last Action:
After struggling to find their shooting touch in the first half, the Cardinals clawed back to within one against Bethel last Saturday, but the Royals pulled away late in handing SMU a 70-58 conference setback at the SMU Gym. … Gustavus, meanwhile, dropped a heartbreaker on the road Saturday, as Concordia's Karl Larson made a free throw with 00:03 on the clock as the Cobbers topped the Gusties 69-68 in Moorhead, Minn.

Last Meeting: The Gusties, who could not shake the pesky Cardinals in settling for a nine-point, 40-31 halftime advantage, finally shook loose early in the second half and never looked back in handing SMU an 81-62 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback at the SMU Gym.

A Year Ago: Gustavus picked up a pair of wins against the Cardinals in their two conference meetings a year ago. Gustavus outrebounded SMU 45-23 — including 20-6 on the offensive end — as the Gusties rolled to an 85-79 victory on Jan 7, then followed that up with a 93-point effort in a 93-60 victory on Feb. 6.

Cardinal Notes: With Saturday's loss to Bethel — the Cardinals'
Seventh straight setback vs. the Royals — SMU fell to 3-3 in its last five games. … Last Wednesday's win over Macalester completed the Cardinals' season sweep of the Scots, and snapped a two-game losing streak. … The Cardinals' win over the Scots was also their first overtime game since the 2002-03 season, when SMU lost to UST 65-62. SMU's last overtime win came on Dec. 6, 2000, when the Cardinals posted an 80-70 win over St. Olaf. … Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) — who scored a team-leading 21 points in the Cardinals' overtime win over Macalester on Wednesday — picked up where he left off against Bethel on Saturday, leading SMU with 20 points. … Holland has now scored 20 or more points seven times this season and has reached double figuresin 22 of the team's last 24 games. … Holland's effort vs. the Royals marked the 15th time in SMU's 17 games win which they boasted at least one 20-point scorer. SMU was held without a 20-point scorer in last Monday's loss at Augsburg, when Holland's 13 points were the team high. … Holland's 13 points vs. Augsburg were also the fewest by the team's leading scorer all season. … Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) posted back-to-back 17-point performances vs. Macalester and Bethel. He has now scored 10 or more points in 36 of the team's last 42 games — including 20 or more points 10 times in the Cardinals' last 16 contests. … Bradley Bruno (Chicago, Ill.) collected his second collegiate double-double vs. Macalester last Wednesday, scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Bruno's other double-double was a career-high 22-points, 10-rebound effort vs. Hamline on Jan. 7. … Bruno is the only Cardinal this season with a double-double. …  That 22-point effort by Bruno vs. Hamline on Jan. 7 was just the second time this season — and just the second time in SMU's last 33 games — that Holland or Wright have not led the team in scoring. …  Wright and Holland enter tonight's game averaging in double figures, with Wright boasting a team-best 20.6 ppg average, while Holland is at 16.5 ppg. Wright is also ranked No. 2 in the MIAC in scoring with his 20.1 ppg average. …  SMU's win at Macalester was its first road win in eight tries this season. … SMU shot a season-best 15-for-16 (.94 percent) from the free throw line vs. Bethel. … SMU's 58 points vs. the Royals Saturday were a season low. Two of SMU's five-lowest offensive outputs have come against Bethel.

Gustie Notes:
The Gusties have won the last 31 meetings between the two teams, dating back to a 72-70 Cardinal win in their second meeting of the 1992-93 season. … Saturday's one-point loss to Concordia was the second straight setback for the Gusties. … After putting together a season-high four-game winning streak from Jan. 5-14, the Gusties have dropped three of their last four. … Five of Gustavus' eight wins have come at home — GAC is 3-7 on the road. … Robert Schmidt scored a team-high 18 points in the Gusties' loss to Concordia Saturday. He is the seventh GAC person to lead the team in scoring through the team's 16 games. … Schmidt's 18 points were the third-highest offensive output of the season for the Gusties. … Schmidt knocked down a season-high five 3-pointers against the Cobbers Saturday. In his team games vs. Concordia, Schmidt has recorded nine 3-pointers. … Jesse Van Sickle leads three GAC players averaging in double figures, boasting a 10.4 ppg average. Ryan McPartland (10.3 ppg) and Sam Paulson (10.1 ppg) are the other two.
