Last Action: The Cardinals are coming off their second straight five-set match against a nationally ranked team. Unlike Thursday's thrilling 3-2 win over No. 16 Saint Benedict, however, SMU dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to No. 19 Concordia on Saturday in Winona, Minn. St. Catherine, meanwhile, picked up its fourth conference win of the season Saturday, rolling to a 3-1 victory over Bethel in Arden Hills, Minn.
Last Meeting: October 22, 2008: Fueled by the 13-kill efforts of Amy Kujak (River Falls, Wis.) and Sarah Gardner (Rochester, Minn.), the Cardinals picked up their fifth win in their last six matches, rolling over St. Catherine 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23) at the SMU Gym.
Saint Mary's Cardinal Notes: The Cardinals' loss to No. 19 Concordia was just their second loss in six five-set matches this season. The loss also snapped SMU's seven-match winning streak. The Cardinals have not lost more than two matches in a row all season, and have put together winning streaks of two, seven and eight straight. … The 3-2 loss to Concordia was also just the second loss in eight home matches for SMU, which is 11-3 on the road. … SMU is now 9-2 in its last 11 matches. … Jessica Mate (St. Charles, Ill.) enjoyed a stellar week for the Cardinals, collecting a season-high 19 kills in last Thursday's 3-2 win over No. 16 Saint Benedict, then equaling that feat in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Concordia. … Sarah Gardner (Rochester, Minn.) and Courtney Runge (St. James, Minn.) chipped in 18 and 16 kills, respectively, vs. the Cobbers Saturday, while Runge also collected a season-high 19 digs and Gardner delivered five aces. … Runge and Gardner have each eclipsed the century mark in both kills and digs, with Runge boasting 218 kills and 263 digs, while Gardner has totaled a team-leading 264 kills and 124 digs. … Brittany Cherwinka (Faribault, Minn.), who dished out a career-high 61 assists in last Thursday's win over Saint Benedict, followed that up with a 55-assist effort vs. the Cobbers. Cherwinka now has a team-high 769 assists, including four matches with 50 or more. … Tara Rasmussen (Kasson, Minn.) leads the team in digs with 364 and is one of six Cardinals with 100 or more digs. … With their 4-0 showing at the MIAC-IIAC Border Battle on Oct. 2-3, the Cardinals finished 14-2 in tournament play this year – sweeping through the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic, the Wartburg Tournament and the Border Battle, while going 2-2 at the Simpson Tournament. … The Cardinals enter today's match ranked 17th in NCAA Division III in assists-per-set (11.66), 21st in kills-per-set (12.74), and 30th in attack percentage (.244).
St. Catherine Wildcat Notes: With their win over Bethel on Saturday, the Wildcats have now won three straight and are 9-2 in their last 11 matches. … Today's match is the third of four straight MIAC road matches for the Wildcats, who are 12-3 on the road this season. … St. Catherine had four players reach double figures in kills vs. the Royals Saturday, led by Megan Ahlbrecht and Brittini Wangerin, who each finished with 13. … Maria Hoffman and Ahlbrecht lead the team in kills with 256 and 203, respectively, while Hoffman also boasts a team-best .327 attack percentage and 66 blocks. … Nina Lindquist dished out a career-high 52 assists vs. Bethel and leads the team with 784 assists this season. Lindquist has collected 40 or more assists six times this season. … Nicole Neumann has collected a team-leading 397 digs and is one of three CSC players with 200 or more digs.
