ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's hockey team, coming off a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-opening 6-2 victory over Hamline Friday at the SMU Ice Arena, hits the road to face the Pipers again Saturday, as the Cardinals travel to Drake Arena for a 2 p.m. contest.

Last Night: The Cardinals got two goals from both Stevie Fiek (Rochester, Minn.) and Katie Cachey (Orland Park, Ill.) en route to a 6-2 conference-opening win over Hamline at the SMU Ice Arena Friday evening.

December 5, 2008: Nicole Olson (New Brighton, Minn.) scored two goals as the Cardinals scored the game's first three goals and rolled to a 5-3 win over Hamline at Drake Arena in St. Paul, Minn.

December 6, 2008:
Katie Cachey(Orland Park, Ill..) scored back-to-back goals five minutes apart in the third period, breaking a 2-2 tie and sending SMU to its second straight victory over the Pipers, a 5-2 decision at the SMU Ice Arena.

Stevie Fiek (Rochester, Minn.) and Katie Cachey (Orland Park, Ill.) each scored two goals vs. the Pipers Friday, marking the third time in SMU's six games that the Cardinals had at least one two-goal scorer. … Fiek also added three assists vs. Hamline for her first collegiate five-point game. … Ingrid Klockars (Wheaton, Ill.) — who scored both of SMU's goals in last Saturday's 2-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire — added her third goal in the last two games vs. the Pipers. Klockars has now had one two-goal game in each of her three seasons as a Cardinal. … Alex Braun (Darwin, Minn.) accounted for SMU's other goal vs. the Pipers Friday. … SMU's six goals Friday are the most under coach Terry Mannor, and the most since the Cardinals beat Hamline 8-0 on Feb. 25, 2004. … Kaye Collier (Hibbing, Minn.) finished with 15 saves vs. Hamline en route to her second straight victory. Collier recorded 19 saves to earn her first collegiate win in goal vs. UW-Eau Claire last Saturday. … With her five points Friday, Fiek moved into the team lead in points with six, while also leading the team in assists (4). … Klockars is the team-leader in goals with three, one ahead of Fiek, Cachey and Nicole Olson (New Brighton, Minn.). … Collier enters today's game vs. the Pipers boasting a 2.25 goals-against-average and a .919 save percentage in four starts. … SMU's opponents have netted 12 of their 14 goals in the second and third periods combined. … Last Saturday's win over the Blugolds snapped SMU's season-opening three-game losing streak. … With their 5-4 loss to Lake Forest on Oct. 31, the Cardinals fell to 0-2-1 in their last three season openers, and have not won its season opener since the 2005-06 season, when the Cardinals dropped UW-Eau Claire 5-1 in Terry Mannor's first game as SMU's head coach.
