The Cardinals couldn't shut down Concordia's John Fraase, who poured in 31 points and pulled down 24 boards in leading the Cobbers to a 77-64 conference win over SMU Wednesday in Moorhead, Minn. … Augsburg, meanwhile, got 22 points from Ben Flavin in rolling to a 70-54 MIAC win over Carleton Wednesday in Minneapolis, Minn.

Last Meeting: Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) netted 13 points and Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) added 11, but the Cardinals managed just 26 points in the opening 20 minutes — and never recovered in falling to the Auggies 84-64 on Jan. 19 in Minneapolis, Minn.

A Year Ago: The Auggies swept the teams' two regular-season games a year ago. Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) knocked down a team-best 24 points, but it wasn't nearly enough, as Augsburg seemed to score at will, erupting for 96 points en route to a 96-71 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory on Jan. 16, 2008, in Minneapolis, Minn. … In the rematch, Wright and Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) combined to score 25 first-half points, but over the game's final 20 minutes, the Cardinals could do nothing right, as Augsburg held the SMU to a season-low 19 second-half points in turning a four-point halftime deficit into a 72-57 victory on Feb. 20 at the SMU Gym.

Cardinal Notes: Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-best 18 points vs. Concordia Wednesday. Wright, who boasts the team's top seven offensive performances of the season — including a season- and career-best 41 points vs. MacMurray on Nov. 22 — has now scored 10 or more points in 22 of the Cardinals' 24 games this season, and has scored in double figures in 44 of his 49 collegiate games. … Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) also scored in double figures vs. the Cobbers Wednesday, tossing in 14 points. He has now netted 10 or more points in 27 of the team's last 31 games. … St. Olaf's 55 points last Saturday were the fewest allowed by the Cardinals this season. The Oles' 22 field goals and two 3-pointers were also the fewest allowed by SMU this year. … The Cardinals' 84-point outburst vs. Hamline on Feb. 11 equaled the team's season high (SMU scored 84 in an 84-70 victory over MacMurray on Nov. 22). … Two of SMU's top three offensive outputs have been vs. Hamline. SMU netted 80 vs. the Pipers in an 80-72 victory in the teams' first meeting on Jan. 7. … SMU knocked down a season-best 37 free throws vs. the Pipers. The Cardinals were 37-for-47 from the line. The 47 free throw attempts were also a season high. … Bradley Bruno (Chicago, Ill.) scored a game- and career-high 23 points vs. Hamline. It was the second time in his career that Bruno has eclipsed the 20-point barrier. … Eric Burroughs (St. Paul, Minn.) also posted a career-best effort vs. Hamline, scoring 12 points. … Wright and Bruno also share the team lead with two double-doubles each. Wright boasted 22 points and 10 rebounds vs. Winona State, and 41 points and 10 boasts vs. MacMurray, while Bruno posted 22 points and 10 boasts vs. Hamline and 12 points and 10 rebounds vs. Macalester. … Bruno's 23-point effort vs. Hamline marked the 16th time in SMU's 23 games in which SMU boasted at least one 20-point scorer. … Wright and Holland enter today's game averaging in double figures, with Wright boasting a team-best 18.5 ppg average, while Holland is at 15.4 ppg. The two are also ranked No. 3 and No. 4 in the MIAC in scoring, respectively. Wright is averaging 17.7 ppg in 18 conference contests, while Holland is scoring at a 15.4 ppg clip. … Holland is third in the conference in free throw percentage (93-for-105, .886 %), while Wright is No. 1 in steals (34, 1.79 spg). … As a team, the Cardinals rank No. 1 in the MIAC in offensive rebounds (11.42 orpg). … Brad Knights (Plainfield, Wis.) has missed just one free throw in his three-year collegiate career. Fueled by a 9-for-9 effort this year, Knights is 19-for-20 in his SMU career. … The Cardinals' 70-65 win over Macalester on Jan. 21 was their first overtime game since the 2002-03 season, when SMU lost to UST 65-62. SMU's last overtime win came on Dec. 6, 2000, when the Cardinals posted an 80-70 win over St. Olaf.

Augsburg clinched its ?rst berth in the MIAC postseason playoffs since the 2000-01 season with a 66-52 win at Macalester last Saturday. …  Augsburg is now 14-10 overall and 12-7 in MIAC play, its most victories in both overall and league play since the 1999-2000 campaign (16-8 overall, 15-5 MIAC). … Wednesday's win over Carleton snapped the Auggies' two-game losing streak. … The Auggies' 70-point effort vs. the Knights was also their highest offensive output since netting 83 in an 83-67 win at Hamline on Jan. 21. … Ben Flavin scored a career-high 22 points and also dished out a game-high four assists vs. Carleton Wednesday. … Nate Alm posted his ninth double-double of the season vs. Carleton, scoring 11 points and adding a game-high 12 boards. … The Auggies are 7-5 on their home court — and 7-5 on the road — en route to their 14-10 overall record. … Augsburg has been involved in two overtime games this season — and both have been against Concordia. Augsburg beat Concordia 71-69 on Jan. 5, then lost to the Cobbers in OT 69-64 on Feb. 4. … Nate Alm and Jon Cassens lead the Auggies in scoring, averaging 13.9 and 12.2 ppg, respectively. …  Alm has eight double-doubles this season, including five in his last 10 games. … Cassens, meanwhile, became the 16th player in Augsburg men's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point career scoring mark with an 11-point effort against Macalester on Feb. 7. In 73 career games (all starts), Cassens is now 16th in school history in scoring with 1,024 career points (14.1 ppg), to go along with 338 career assists (4.7 apg) and 188 career rebounds (2.5 rpg). He has also hit 116 career 3-pointers (seventh in school history).
