NORTHFIELD, Minn.  — It was their final meet before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, one last chance to “tune-up” before the season-ending conference championships.

And according to Saint Mary's University track and field coach Shawn McMahon, the Cardinals are tuned — and up for whatever challenges next weekend's MIAC meet holds.

“It was a great performance all the way around,” said McMahon, after watching his Cardinals compete at the Ole Open Friday evening. “We knew coming in that this was our last chance to compete before the conference championships and I thought we exceeded my expectations.

“We're right where we want to be.”

Brittany Kuehn (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) led the Cardinals' charge, collecting a first-place effort in the 200, stopping the clock in 58.99. Teri Heinzen (Marshfield, Wis.) chipped in a second in the triple jump (10.20 meters) and a seventh in the 55 (7.63). Emily Dee (Racine, Minn.) raced to a fifth in the 3000 (11:16.09), Sarah Harstad (Chatfield, Minn.) was fifth in the weight throw (13.27 meters) and sixth in the shot put (11.47 meters), and Ashley Acosta (Winnebago, Minn.) added a seventh in the 1000 (3:18.01).

“It was a good showing for us,” McMahon said. “The (indoor) season has gone pretty much the way I had hoped — hopefully we'll be ready to make a real push next weekend (at the conference championships).”
