Last Action:
The Cardinals held St. Thomas to just 54 points Monday, but managed just 41 points of their own in dropping their third straight 54-41 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at the SMU Gym. … Carleton, meanwhile, lost for the third time in its last four games, as St. Olaf escaped with a 52-48 conference win in Northfield, Minn.

Last Meeting: The Cardinals gave Carleton all it could handle in their first meeting on Jan. 5 at the SMU Gym. After trailing by as many as 13 in the second half, SMU made it a three possession game with less than three minutes remaining, only to catch a few unlucky breaks in falling to the Knights 67-57 in an MIAC contest.

A Year Ago: MU and Carleton split the teams' two conference games a year ago. In the first meeting on Jan. 12, Jess Weisbrod scored 11 of her game-high 14 points in the first half, and added 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season and 13th of her career, helping the Cardinals to a come-from-behind, 63-60 win over the visiting Knights at the SMU Gym. In the rematch on Feb. 9, the Cardinals were no match for Carleton, which locked up its eighth straight Minnesota  Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff berth — jumping out to a 40-20 halftime lead and rolled to an 84-41 victory over SMU in Northfield, Minn.

Cardinal Notes: After putting together their first two-game winning streak of the season with wins over Macalester and Bethel, the Cardinals have now dropped three straight and fallen to 3-4 in their last seven games. … The Cardinals' defense clamped down on UST Monday. After surrendering 102 points vs. the Tommies in their first meeting, SMU held UST to just 54 Monday — the second-fewest points allowed by the Cardinals this season. … Cherie Kulig (Independence, Wis.) scored 10 points vs. the Tommies, snapping a streak of two straight games in which SMU failed to have a double-figure scorer. SMU has now had a player score 10 or more points in 85 of their last 93 games. … SMU's 73-69 win over Bethel on Jan. 24 was the Cardinals' first overtime game since a 66-60 OT loss to St. Olaf on Jan. 31, 2007. The last time SMU won an overtime game was a 75-73 OT win over — ironically — Bethel on Jan. 2, 2006. …  Jess Miller (Carver, Minn.) scored a career-high 23 points in leading the Cardinals to their double-OT win over Bethel on Jan. 24. … Jesa Hall (Glenwood City, Wis.) scored a team- and career-best 21 points in SMU's 69-66 loss at Augsburg on Jan. 19. Hall's previous career high was 15 points, a total she has now equaled four times this season. … The Cardinals' loss at Saint Benedict last Saturday dropped SMU to 0-10 on the road this season. SMU is now 1-21 in their last 22 road games, with their lone road win a 57-54 victory over St. Olaf on Jan. 5, 2008. … SMU's 73 points vs. Bethel on Jan. 24 were a season high, and the most scored by the Cardinals since netting 73 in a 73-59 win over Augsburg on Jan. 13, 2007. It was also the fourth time this season the Cardinals have scored 60 or more points.
 
Knight Notes: Monday's loss to St. Olaf was a serious blow to the Knights' MIAC playoff hopes, as Carleton dropped two games out of the sixth and final playoff spot with six games remaining. … Carleton, which enters today's game averaging 62.1 ppg, was held to a season-low 48 points vs. the Oles. It was the second time this season Carleton has been held under 50 points. … St. Olaf's 52 points were the fewest allowed by Carleton in a loss this season. … Carleton were also held to a season-low eight free throws. … Ally Weaver scored a team-high 15 points in Monday's loss. It was the sixth time this season she has led the team in scoring. … Carleton has won just two of its seven home games, while going 6-6 on the road. … The Knights enter today's game boasting three players averaging in double figures, led by Hannah Oken-Berg's 13.4 ppg average. Weaver (10.9 ppg) and Sarah Lincoln (10.7 ppg) are the other two.
