: Last Action: The Cardinals were forced to settle for a split in their conference series against Bethel last weekend. SMU rallied from a 2-0 first-period deficit, scoring six of the game's last seven goals in beating Bethel 6-3 at the SMU Ice Arena Friday evening. Bethel turned the tables on the Cardinals in the rematch on Saturday, rallying from its own 2-0 first-period deficit to beat SMU 4-3 in Blaine, Minn. … St. Thomas, meanwhile, split its conference series against defending MIAC regular-season champion Hamline, beating the Pipers 5-3 on Hamline's home ice, while losing, 5-3, on the Tommies' home ice.

A Year Ago: St. Thomas got the best of SMU twice a year ago, scoring five goals in each game of their two-game conference series. UST held SMU to a Karl Reinke (Duluth, Minn.) first-period goals in beating the Cardinals 5-1 at the SMU Ice Arena on Feb. 15, then completed the sweep by getting a 20-save shutout performance from Tyler Chestnut in blanking SMU 5-0 in Mendota Heights, Minn.

Cardinal Notes: With Friday's win, the Cardinals snapped a thee-game losing streak. … The Cardinals boasted back-to-back two-goal performers vs. the Royals last weekend. Tommy Healy (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) scored two of SMU's six goals on Friday. It was the first two-goal game of his collegiate career. Trevor Tolibas (Colorado Springs, Colo.), meanwhile, netted SMU's first two goals in Saturday's 4-3 loss for the first two-goal game of his SMU career. … SMU has now had a two-goal scorer in three of its last four games. Steve Murphy (Anchorage, Alaska) had netted a pair of goals vs. St. Olaf on Jan. 23. It was Murphy's second two-goal game of his SMU career and his third multiple-point outing of the season. … Murphy now leads the team with eight goals — including one last Friday vs. Bethel — and 13 points. He is one of three players with 10 or more points. Mike Glaesmer (Traverse City, Mich.) and Anthony Bohn (Spring Hill, Fla.) are the other two, with Glaesmer boasting 12 and Bohn 10. … Bohn's nine assists are also a team high. … … Healy and linemates Jimmy Becker (Wildomar, Calif.) and Vincent Unklesbay (Maplewood, Minn.) each had three points vs. the Royals Friday. … Karac Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped 31 shots in his first collegiate start Friday, then followed that up with a 29-save effort on Saturday.  … SMU's six goals, 10 assists and 16 points Friday equaled the team's season highs. … After being whistled for 10 penalties for 31 minutes in last Saturday's 9-1 loss to St. Olaf, the Cardinals were called for a season-low five penalties vs. the Royals Friday. … Thirteen of Saint Mary's 19 games have been against nationally ranked teams. SMU's first four games were nonconference games against No. 15 St. Scholastica, No. 8 UW-Superior, No. 6 UW-Stevens Point and No. 12 UW-Eau Claire, while conference opponents Gustavus, Hamline and St. Olaf are all in the Top 15. St. Norbert entered its Jan. 10 game vs. SMU as the nation's fourth-ranked team, while UW-Stout was ranked seventh. … SMU has played four overtime games this season. The Cardinals are 2-1-1 in those four games, with wins over Concordia (6-5) and UW-River Falls (2-1), a 7-6 loss to defending MIAC regular-season champion Hamline and a 3-3 tie vs. Concordia. … UW-River Falls' single goal in SMU's 2-1 OT win on Jan. 17 was the fewest allowed by the Cardinals since a 3-1 win over St. Scholastica on Jan. 26, 2007. … The Cardinals have been outscored 38-10 in the first period, 38-17 in the second period and 30-16 in the third. … The Cardinals scored first vs. Bethel Saturday on the first of Tolibas' two first-period goals, marking just the second time in 19 games in which the Cardinals have scored the game's first goal. A first-period tally by Andy Roberts (Rochester, Minn.) vs. Lake Forest on Jan. 9 is the only time this season the Cardinals have scored first.

Tommie Notes: With Friday's win at Hamline, the Tommies captured the 1,000 win in UST hockey history. UST is now 1000-581-66 in the program's 86-year history and is the lone current Division III program to reach 1,000 wins. … Saturday's loss to Hamline snapped the Tommies' three-game winning streak and was the second straight year in which the Pipers beat UST on the Tommies' home ice. … UST has played in two overtime games this season, with both games resulting in ties — 3-3 vs. St. Scholastica on Nov. 1 and 2-2 vs. Saint John's on Dec. 6. … Rob Johnson leads the team in goals (16) and points (29). He is one of eight UST players with 10 or more points. … Adam Davis boasts a team-best 16 assists and is one of four players with 10 or more helpers. … Fifteen of St. Thomas' 19 games have been decided by two goals or less. … UST has scored a season-high seven goals twice — in a 7-3 win at Saint John's on Dec. 5 and in a 7-2 victory vs. Lake Forest on Jan. 10. UST has surrendered six goals in a game once (a 6-0 loss to UW-Eau Claire on Nov. 7) and allowed five goals five times. … UST coach Terry Skrypek earned his 400 career coaching victory on Jan. 11. He is just the third coach to reach 400 career victories in the 89-year history of MIAC hockey.
