Complete Border Battle Meet Summary
SUPERIOR, Wis. — As good as
Teri Heinzen (Marshfield, Wis.) was last Saturday at the UW-Stout Invitational, the Saint Mary's University junior was even better Saturday afternoon at the UW-Superior Border Battle.
Heinzen, who posted a pair of fourth-place performances in the 55 and the 200 at last week's UW-Stout Invitational, collected a pair of first-place finishes — and set two meet records in the process — to lead the SMU women.
Heinzen posted her meet record-setting time of 7.60 to win the 55, then followed that up with another meet record in the 200, where she crossed the tape first in a time of 26.86.
Ellen Bina (New Brighton, Minn.) made it a 1-2 SMU showing in the 200 with a second-place time of 28.55.
And Heinzen wasn't finished, adding a second-place showing in the long jump, where she posted a season-best leap of 5.05 meters.
“This was a very solid meet for us,” said SMU coach Shawn McMahon. “(Heinzen) really had a memorable day — she was really solid in every event. But she wasn't the only strong showing for us, we had a lot of very good performances today.”
Heinzen wasn't the only Cardinal champion — or meet record-holder for that matter — as
Brittany Kuehn (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) won the 400 in a record-setting time of 59.38.
Sara Harstad (Chatfield, Minn.) chipped in a second-place effort in the shot put (11.58 meters), while also placing eighth in the weight throw (12.88 meters).
Josiah Ryks (Austin, Minn.) and
Chris Fisette (Elmhurst, Ill.) led the way for the SMU men, placing second in the 400 (51.53) and long jump (6.67 meters), respectively, while
Benton Kodet (Northfield, Minn.) was third in the 1000 (2:42.65),
Cole Resleff (Stewartville, Minn.) was fourth in the high jump (1.75 meters),
Marty Howard (Chicago, Ill.) was fourth in the 800 (2:04.38) and
Joe Holman (Suamico, Wis.) and
Eric Stephenson# (Jim Falls, Wis.) were sixth in 55 hurdles (9.32) and the 200 (23.33), respectively.
