Complete The Qualifier Meet Results
NORTHFIELD, Minn. — For Saint Mary's University men's track and field coach Shawn McMahon, Saturday's The Qualifier hosted by St. Olaf was a pretty low-key event.
One last chance for the Cardinals to get their feet wet before the upcoming Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships next weekend.
The Cardinals, however, were anything but low key.
Josiah Ryks (Austin, Minn.) raced to a third-place time of 51.46 in the 400 and
Derek Wherley (Missoula, Mont.) posted a season-best effort in the weight throw to pace the Cardinals.
“It was a good final tune-up,” said McMahon. “We got some pretty solid efforts, it was a pretty low-key meet, but was pleased with what I saw.”
Along with Ryks' third-place showing in the 400, Wherley added a seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 13.80 meters. and Chris Fissete (Elmhurst, Ill.) finished fifth in the triple jump (15.41 meters) and 10th in the long jump (6.10 meters).
“We'll be ready (for the conference championships,” said McMahon. “It's been a solid indoor season and I'm looking for big things from our group next weekend.”
