St. Olaf, which scored two goals in the opening minute en route to a 5-2 nonconference victory the Saint Mary's University men's hockey team on Nov. 7, picked up its second straight 5-2 win over the Cardinals Friday evening, scoring the game's first four goals en route to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory.
The Oles didn't score twice in the game's first minute this time around, but they did score twice in the game's opening period, as Charlies Raskob and Devin Nitzkorski each beat SMU goalie
Jason Horstman (Faribault, Minn.) in the first 20 minutes.
St. Olaf would push that lead to 4-0, as Raskob tallied his second of the season at 7:17 and Isak Tranvik added the Oles' second shorthanded goal of the game four minutes later.
Ben Kitzmiller (Lambertville, Mich.) finally got the Cardinals on the board before the second period ended, before Raskob completed his hat trick with a third-period goal and SMU's
Will Such (Broomfield, Colo.) rounded out the scoring with his first of the season with two minutes remaining in regulation.
Horstman finished with 41 saves — including 18 in the third period — while St. Olaf's Ben Leis collected 24 saves.
The Cardinals, who fall to 1-12-1 overall, return to action on Saturday, playing host to St. Olaf in the second game of the teams' two-game conference series. Game time is 7 p.m. at the SMU Ice Arena.
