Last Action: The Cardinals got 16 points from Jess Miller (Carver, Minn.) and a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds from Jessica Thone (Woodbury, Minn.), but it was not enough, as Bethel held SMU to just 15 first-half points en route to a 58-45 Royal win Saturday in Arden Hills, Minn. Gustavus, meanwhile, came out on the short end of a 62-57 decision against Concordia in Moorhead, Minn., in a battle of league leaders Saturday afternoon.

Last Meeting — December 7, 2009: Jess Miller (Carver, Minn.) scored a career-best 29 points, but the Cardinals could not keep pace with the high-powered Gustavus offense, as the Gusties escaped Winona, Minn., with a 74-66 conference win.

Saint Mary's Cardinal Notes:
Jess Miller (Carver, Minn.) scored a team-leading 16 points against Bethel on Saturday, marking the second straight game — and the eighth time this season — that the SMU junior has led the team in scoring. … Miller, who extended her consecutive starts streak to 66 Saturday, netted a career-best 29 points in the Cardinals' first meeting with Gustavus on Dec. 7. … Miller has now scored in double figures 12 of the team's 16 games — including each of the Cardinals' last four. … Jessica Thone (Woodbury, Minn.) scored 13 points and added 11 rebounds vs. Bethel en route to her first collegiate double-double. … Thone's double-double was the second of the season for the Cardinals, who also got a 16-point, 16-rebound effort from Jamie Stefely (Lisle, Ill.) vs. Hamline on Jan. 6. … Thone scored a team-high 22 points vs. Augsburg on Jan. 18. The 22-point effort marked the third time this season Thone has scored 20 or more points. The effort was also just five points shy of her career-best 27-point effort, recorded vs. Carleton on Jan. 4. … Thone has accounted for three of the Cardinals' five 20-point performances this season (27, 22 and 21 points). Miller (27 points) and Cherie Kulig (Independence, Wis. / 24 points) are the other two. …Emily DeWitt (Lino Lakes, Minn.) netted a career-high 11 points vs. Macalester last Wednesday, while also pulling down a team-high seven rebounds. … Miller enters today's game vs. Macalester boasting a team-best 13.7 ppg scoring average, while Thone (10.2 ppg) and Kulig (10.1 ppg) are also averaging in double figures. … Concordia's 46 points scored on Jan. 16 were not only the fewest allowed by the Cardinals this season, but also the fewest since SMU held Macalester to 46 points in a 54-46 SMU win on Dec. 4, 2006. … All three of SMU's wins this season have come at home. The Cardinals are looking to snap a seven-game road losing streak today at Gustavus. … The Cardinals' 80-70 loss vs. Carleton on Jan. 4 was the first OT game of the season and just the second in the last three seasons for SMU. The Cardinals beat Bethel 73-69 in double overtime a year ago.
