Game Summary / GameDay Preview

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team — and goalkeeper Chris Williams (Chicago, Ill.) in particular — held 20 Macalester players off the scoreboard Friday evening,

Unfortunately, the Cardinals weren't so fortunate with Macalester's 21st player — Taylor Rasmussen — as the sophomore scored three times in leading the Scots to a 3-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory.

Rasmussen put Macalester out front in the game's sixth minute, breaking free of the Cardinal defenders and beating Williams for his seventh goal of the season. He would add his eighth goal of the year 18 minutes later, converting a cross from Jesse Geary, then completed the hat trick 18 minutes into the second half.

Williams finished with seven saves in goal for SMU, while Macalester goalkeeper Matt Meyer stopped all four Cardinal shots on goal.

The Cardinals (0-5 MIAC, 2-11 overall) are back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Northfield, Minn., for a 4 p.m. conference contest against St. Olaf.
