ST. PAUL, Minn. — Saint Mary's University swimming and diving coach Eric Lindquist wasn't about to get too caught up with his teams' finishes in their double-duals against St. Thomas and Carleton.

He was, however, pretty excited about some of his Cardinals' individual performances.

“St. Thomas and Carleton are just so deep — they are two of the top teams in the conference for a reason,” aid Lindquist, whose men's and women's teams dropped both double-duals Saturday. “But individually, we got some great performances, which was great to see.”

The Cardinal women's diving pair of Rachel Steinkamp (Lakeville, Minn.) and Liz Flynn (Mahtomedi, Minn.) stole the show on Saturday, as Steinkamp captured the one-meter competition with a score of 168.07, while Flynn — who finished second to Steinkamp in the one-meter (164.25) — took top honors in the three-meter with a score of 188.55.

Anna Smaron (Maple Plain, Minn.) chipped in a second-place effort in the 200 breaststroke (2:42.60), while Mark Ross (Dubuque, Iowa) led the way for the Cardinal men, placing fourth overall in the 200 backstroke (2:06.95) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (58.58).

“It was a good day for us,” said Lindquist, whose Cardinals are back in action on Friday and Saturday, taking on Macalester in a dual meet on Friday, before taking part in the Macalester Invitational on Saturday. “We had a lot of very solid times. I like where we are at at this stage in the season.”
