ST. PETER, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's hockey team, coming off a 4-0 conference loss to Saint John's last Saturday at the SMU Ice Arena, hits the road for the first of its final two MIAC games of the season, as the Cardinals take on Gustavus in a 7 p.m. contest at the Don Roberts Ice Arena on the GAC campus.

Last Action: The Cardinals dropped both ends of its home conference series against Saint John's last weekend, falling 5-2 on Friday and 4-0 on Saturday. Gustavus, meanwhile, jumped back in front of Hamline in the race for the conference's regular-season title with a 5-4 victory over the Pipers Saturday. Hamline had opened the two-game series with a 3-1 win over the Gusties.

Last Meeting — Nov. 14, Nov. 16, 2009: The Gusties kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard in their two meetings a year ago, as Gustavus posted wins of 6-0 in Winona, Minn., and 3-0 in Mankato, Minn.

Saturday's loss to the Johnnies was just the third time in the Cardinals' first 23 games in which SMU has failed to score at least one goal. Two of those shutout losses have come vs. SJU. … Nate Percy (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and #A.J. Woodward# (Lenexa, Kan.) netted the Cardinals' two goals in last Friday's 5-2 loss to the Johnnies. The goal was the first of the season for Woodward, and the first of his career for Percy. … Greg Moore (Woodbury, Minn.) finished with 32 saves against the Johnnies last Friday, while Jason Horstman (Faribault, Minn.) kicked out 30 SJU shots in Saturday's rematch. … Anthony Bohn (Spring Hill, Fla.) enters today's game vs. Gustavus as the team leader in assists (12) and points (17), while he shares the team lead in goals (5) with Morgan Shepherd (Brainerd, Minn.). … SMU's 46 goals have come from 18 different players, while 22 different Cardinals have notched at least one point.  … The Cardinals have scored a season-high four goals three times — going 0-2-1 in those three games (4-4 tie vs. Nichols, and 5-4 losses to Bethel and Augsburg). … The Cardinals have been outscored 39-15 in the game's middle period and 35-14 in the third period. … The Cardinals have led or been tied in the third period in nine of their 23 games this season. … The Cardinals have scored first in seven of their 23 games, but are just 1-6-0 in those seven contest. With their 5-4 win over Hamline last Saturday, Gustavus moved back into first place in the MIAC standings, one point ahead of the Pipers. … Saturday's win was the Gusties seventh in their last nine games — Hamline had snapped GAC's season-high seven-game unbeaten streak with its 3-1 win on Friday. … After opening the season 3-3-1, the Gusties have gone 13-2-1 in their last 16. … The Gusties have not lost back-to-back games all season. … Gustavus has been held to one goal in three of its five losses — a 2-1 loss to St. Olaf on Jan. 8, and 3-1 losses vs. UW-Eau Claire and Hamline. … David Martinson scored his team-leading 24th and 25th goals of the season in last Saturday's win over Hamline. … Martinson, who recorded at least one points in 24 of the team's 29 games a year ago in leading GAC to its first-ever NCAA Division III national title game, enters tonight's game just one goal shy of the 26 he scored a year ago, when he finished second in Division III in goals scored. … Martinson, held without a point just four times through 23 games this season, currently leads the nation in goals (25) and goals-per-game (1.09), and is fifth in points-per-game (1.78). …  Ross Ring-Jarvi is the team's leader in assists (22) and his 33 points are second to Martinson's team-best 40. The two are also among eight GAC players with 10 or more points. … Gustavus has scored first in 15 of its 23 games, going 13-2-0. GAC is 3-3-2 when its opponent scores first.  … GAC has outscored its opponents 37-20 in the second period — including 28-9 in conference play.
