Last Night: Gustavus raced out to a 3-0 lead, but the Cardinals battled back to within 3-2 with a pair of third-period goals. That, however, would be as close as SMU would get, as the Gusties held on for the 3-2 conference win at the SMU Ice Arena.

Saint Mary's Cardinal Notes: The Cardinals' 3-2 loss to Gustavus Friday snapped their three-game winning streak. The game was also the 14th one-goal game of the season — and sixth in their last nine games — for the Cardinals, who are now 5-8-1 in one-goal contests. … Kaye Collier (Hibbing, Minn.), who recorded the third shutout of her career with 24 saves vs. Saint Benedict last Saturday, stopped a career-high 42 shots vs. Gustavus Friday evening. … Stevie Fiek (Rochester, Minn.) scored both of SMU's goals vs. Gustavus off of assists from Nicole Olson (New Brighton, Minn.). … Olson scored her team-leading 11th and 12th goals of the season vs. Saint Benedict last Friday. … Olson has now scored two or more goals three times this season — including a career-best five-goal outburst against Marian on Jan. 9. … With their two points on Friday, Fiek and Olson pushed their team-leading point total to 20. …  Olson's 12 goals are the most scored by a Cardinal since the 2006-07 season, when Melissa Mondo led the team with 15 goals. … Fiek's team-leading 12 assists, meanwhile, are the most in a season since Laura Mueller led the team with 13 during the 2006-07 season. … SMU boasts four players with 10 or more points — Fiek (20), Olson (20), Katie Cachey (Orland Park, Ill.) (15) and Stenseth (11). …  The Cardinals have scored first in 14 of their 22 games, going 10-3-1 in those 14 games. On the flip side, last Friday's win over Saint Benedict was the first time this season SMU has won when its opponent scored first (1-6-0).

Gustavus Gustie Notes: The Gusties enter today's game vs. SMU ranked No. 9 in the latest USCHO.com national poll. … Friday's 3-2 win over Saint Mary's pushed the Gusties' current winning streak to seven in a row. … The Gusties are now 14-1-0 in their last 14. … With their sweep of the Pipers last weekend, the Gusties locked up an MIAC playoff berth, while also moving GAC into a first-place tie with St. Catherine and St. Thomas atop the conference standings. …  The Gusties, who are looking for their sixth straight MIAC regular-season crown, have won the conference playoff championship each of the last six years. …  Melissa Mackley, who scored three goals and registered four assists for seven points to help the Gusties post a 3-0 record last week — and earn the senior forward MIAC Player of the Week honors, scored one of GAC's three goals vs. SMU Friday evening. … With her goal on Friday, Mackley moved into ninth place on the Gustavus career-scoring list with 31 goals and 65 assists for 96 points. … Mackley enters today's game vs. SMU with team highs in assists (14) and points (24), while Allie Schwab and Lindsey Hjelm are the team's leaders in goals with 11 and 10, respectively. … The Gusties boast four players with 10 or more assists and eight players with 10 or more points. … Danielle Justice and Emily Klatt have shared the goaltending duties this season, combining for a 1.44 goals-against-average and a .912 save percentage. … The Gusties have allowed more goals in the third period (16) as they had in the first and second periods combined (15).
