WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team, coming off a 3-1 loss to Bethel in the teams' Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday, return home to take on Carleton in a 1 p.m. conference contest at Ochrymowycz Field.

Last Action:
The Cardinals fell behind 1-0 in the first half, then gave up two goals in a one-minute span early in the second and never recovered, falling to Bethel 3-1 in the teams' MIAC opener Tuesday in Arden Hills, Minn. Carleton, meanwhile, stayed unbeaten in conference play, battling Gustavus to a 1-1 double-overtime tie.

Juamaine Venter (Rochester, Minn.) scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season vs. the Royals Tuesday. … Venter, who recorded the first two-goal game of his career vs. Crown on Sept. 7, is also the team leader in points (9). … After scoring just two goals in his first two seasons with the Cardinals combined, Venter has already netted four goals in six games this season. … Steve Boussie (Troy, Mich.), who scored his second goal of the year vs. Crown, leads the squad in assists (2) and is second in points (6). … Chris Williams (Chicago, Ill.) made his first start of the season in goal vs. Bethel Tuesday, stopping a career-high 11 shots. … Seven of SMU's nine goals have come in the second half — including four of the Cardinals' last five goals. … Four of SMU's six games have been decided by shutout. … Today's game vs. Carleton is the Cardinals' fifth home game through seven contests this season. … With their 3-0 win over Marian on Sept. 1, the Cardinals have now won their season opener in back-to-back years and are 4-1-1 in their last six season-openers.

With their tie vs. Gustavus Wednesday, the Knights avoided dropping back-to-back games for the first time this season. … Carleton has been held to one goal or less in three of its first four games this season — the lone exception, a 5-0 win over Concordia on Sept. 8. … Tim Willis scored the Knights' goal vs. Gustavus Wednesday, while Pete Semmer had six saves in goal. … Willis and Wes Elfman share the team lead in goals with two each, while Willis also leads the squad in assists (3) and points (7). … Semmer has started all four games in goal for the Knights, compiling 1.07 goals-against-average and a .789 save percentage. … Carleton has scored six of its seven goals this season in the first half.
