WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team, coming off a season-opening 3-0 nonconference win over Marian on Wednesday night, is back in action Saturday, playing host to Ripon in a 7 p.m. nonconference contest at Ochrymowycz Field.

Last Action:
The Cardinals scored once in the first half and twice in the second en route to a 3-0 season-opening win over Marian on Wednesday at Ochrymowycz Field. Ripon, meanwhile, also scored three times in its season opener Wednesday, outlasting Edgewood 3-2 in Madison, Wis.

The Cardinals got a pair of first-half goals from Adam Lindsay (Freemont, Wis.) and goalkeeper Jon Szafranski posted his first shutout of the season, as SMU snapped a 297-minute scoreless drought, a three-game losing streak and a seven-game winless slide with a 2-0 nonconference victory over Ripon in Ripon, Wis.

With their 3-0 win over Marian Wednesday, the Cardinals have now won their season opener in back-to-back years and are 4-1-1 in their last six season-openers. … Steve Boussie (Troy, Mich.), who finished as the team's scoring leader a year ago with nine points, picked up right where he left off, scoring once and assisting on two others in the Cardinals' win over Marian. … Zach Palma (Washburn, Wis.) recorded his first collegiate goal vs. the Sabres, while Juamaine Venter (Rochester, Minn.) accounted for the other SMU tally. … Phill Rendell (Denver, Colo.) made his first collegiate start in goal vs. Marian, stopping both Marian shots in 73 minutes of work. Chris Williams (Chicago, Ill.) played the final 17 minutes. … Today's game is the second of three straight home games to open the season for the Cardinals. SMU will host Lakeland on Sunday, before play its first road contest on Tuesday at Crown.

Ripon's 3-2 win over Edgewood Wednesday marked the first time in eight years that the Red Hawks have opened the season with a victory. … Ripon is now 2-0-1 vs. Edgewood in the teams' last three meetings. … Joe Drexler and Kevin Cedarholm scored for the Red Hawks vs. Edgewood Wednesday, while Cedarholm also collected an assist. … Cedarholm is one of three seniors on this year's squad. The Red Hawks did not have a senior on their roster a year ago. … Ripon's Adam Haefner picked up the win in goal vs. Edgewood, finishing with three saves. … The Red Hawks were picked to finish sixth in the Midwest Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. … The Red Hawks open the season with four straight road games.
