GameDay Preview
NORTHFIELD, Minn. — For the second time in four days, the Saint Mary's University women's basketball team took the floor in Northfield, Minn., Saturday afternoon.
And, just like Wednesday's 67-64 victory over St. Olaf, the result was equally as fortuitous when the Cardinals headed across town to square off against Carleotn.
Jess Miller (Carver, Minn.) scored a game- and season-high 23 points and
Brittany Begrowicz (Des Plaines, Ill.) chipped in a career-best 15 points, as the Cardinals cruised to their second straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win, beating the Knights 61-45.
After a see-saw first half that saw SMU take a four-point, 30-26, lead into the locker room, the Cardinals took control over the game's final 20 minutes, outscoring Carleton 31-19.
Miller knocked down nine of her 15 field-goal attempts — including a pair of 3-pointers — en route to her game-high 23 points, while Begrowicz was 5-for-8 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Jamie Stefely (Lisle, Ill.), meanwhile, chipped in six points and a team-best 10 rebounds, as the Cardinals moved to 4-3 in the MIAC and 6-4 overall.
Akemi Arzouman scored 15 points and Jenny Ramey pulled down 10 rebounds for the Knights, who fell to 2-5 in conference play and 3-7 overall.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, returning home to host St. Catherine in a 7:30 p.m. game at the SMU Gym.
