DULUTH, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's hockey team is back on the road on Friday, traveling to St. Scholastica for a 7 p.m. nonconference game against the Saints.

The Cardinals are coming off a pair of 3-2 setbacks at the MIAC Hockey Showcase at Fogerty Arena in Blaine, Minn., last weekend. SMU opened with a 3-2 loss to MIAC preseason favorite St. Thomas on Saturday, then fell to St. Olaf 3-2 on Sunday. … St. Scholastica, meanwhile, went 0-1-1 during its opening weekend last weekend in Duluth, Minn., battling ninth-ranked UW-Superior to a 4-4 tie on Friday, then falling to Yellowjackets 4-2 the following evening

October 31, 2008: It was a Halloween season-opener for the Cardinals against St. Scholastica at the SMU Ice Arena. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the night was filled with plenty of tricks — including a hat trick by the Saints' Trevor Geiger — and not too many treats, as St. Scholastica buried SMU 9-1 in a nonconference game.

The Cardinals are right back in action on Saturday, traveling to Superior, Wis., for a 7 p.m. nonconference game against ninth-ranked UW-Superior. … St. Scholastica, meanwhile, is also back in action Saturday, hosting another MIAC school, St. Olaf, in a 4 p.m. game in Duluth, Minn.
