WINONA, Minn. – The Saint Mary's University women's basketball team gave undefeated St. Olaf all they could handle Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the Oles' near-perfect effort from the free throw line down the stretch proved to be their downfall, as St. Olaf outscored SMU 19-7 in the game's final seven minutes en route to a 76-64 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory at the SMU Gym.

For the third game in a row, the Cardinals proved to be the hare in the tortoise and the hare race, jumping out to a three-point, 34-31 halftime advantage.

The slower-starting Oles, however, had the upper hand in the second half, pulling even with the Cardinals 57-57 with 7:14 to go, before sprinting to their fourth straight win with that game-ending 17-7 run that included 11 points off free throws.

Jamie Stefely (Lisle, Ill.) – coming off her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds against Carleton on Wednesday – knocked down a team-best 12 points for SMU, while Kaitlyn Keefe (Chatfield, Minn.) and Octavis Brown (Broadview, Ill.) each chipped in 10.

Mackenzie Wolter scored a game-high 19 points for the Oles (1-0 MIAC, 4-0 overall), while Eileen O'Donoghue finished with 15.

The Cardinals (1-1 MIAC, 1-2 overall) are back in action on Monday, hosting Saint Benedict in a 7:30 p.m. conference game at the SMU Gym.
