WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's basketball team could not find its shooting touch on Saturday afternoon, falling to Carleton 76-55 in an MIAC game at the SMU Gym.
The Cardinals shot 36 percent from the field, hitting 19 of 52 field goals, but couldn't they couldn't slow down the high-powered, league-leading Knights.
"(Carleton) is the best team in the conference, and they are the best team as far as executing," SMU coach Todd Landrum said. "The effort was there, but you have to match the execution as well."
Chris Palmer (Faribault, Minn.) led the Cardinals with 12 points while
Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.),
Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) and
Michael Burfeind (Lewiston, Minn.) each added 10 points for SMU.
Carleton scored the game's first six points and raced out to a 38-23 halftime advantage, before outscoring SMU 38-32 over the game's final 20 minutes.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, when they host St. John's at SMU Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
