ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's basketball team is back on the road on Wednesday, traveling to St. Thomas for a 7:30 p.m. conference matchup against the Tommies.

Jess Miller (Carver, Minn.) scored a game-high 20 points, but the Cardinals could not recover from a 20-11 run to end the first half, as Concordia handed SMU a 78-49 MIAC in Moorhead, Minn. … St. Thomas, meanwhile, used a monster game by Rachel Booth and some sizzling free throw shooting to hold off St. Olaf, 68-59, Monday in Northfield, Minn.

January 3, 2011: A tough first half for Cardinals — one where they shot only 24 percent from the field — proved to be their downfall against the high-powered Tommies, as St. Thomas jumped out to a 39-18 halftime advantage and held off SMU in the second half en route to a 69-55 conference win at the SMU Gym.

A Year Ago:
December 13, 2009: UST — bolstered by a 26-13 run to open the second half — built their lead as big as 24 points before holding off a late SMU charge to post a 68-58 MIAC victory at the SMU Gym.

February 1, 2010: The Cardinals found the early going their Achilles' heel, as St. Thomas turned a three-point, 13-10, deficit into a 29-point, 44-15, cushion in the span of 12 minutes, as the Tommies rode that 34-2 run to a 50-20 halftime advantage and a 78-49 MIAC win over SMU in St. Paul, Minn.

Today's game is the second straight road game for the Cardinals. SMU will play four of its last six games on the road. … Jess Miller (Carver, Minn.) scored a game-high 20 points against Concordia Monday. It was the fifth time this season — and 10th time in her career — that Miller has netted 20 or more points. … Miller also pulled down a season-high seven boards vs. the Cobbers. … Miller, who is the ninth player in program history to eclipse the 1,000 career-point mark, enters tonight's game against St. Thomas with 1,097 career points, ranking her seventh all-time. … Miller boasts a team-leading 13.1 ppg scoring average. … Miller has started every game during her four-year collegiate career, a span of 93 straight starts. … Cherie Kulig (Independence, Wis.) — who scored a season-high 19 points in the Cardinals' 61-47 win over Bethel last Wednesday — chipped in nine points vs. Concordia Monday and enters tonight's game averaging 9.9 ppg. … Jamie Stefely (Lisle, Ill.), who scored a career-high 21 points and added 10 boards against Augsburg on Jan. 12, has accounted for three of the team's four double-doubles this season. … SMU has made 69 3-pointers, led by Kulig with 16, followed by Miller and Thone with 14 treys each. … The Cardinals recorded their two highest offensive performances of the season in a seven-day span — netting 76 in a 76-57 win over St. Catherine on Jan. 12, then tallied 74 in a 74-62 win over Augsburg on Jan. 19. … Bethel's 47 points last Wednesday marked the fourth time this season SMU has held its opponent under 50 points. With their win over St. Olaf on Monday, the Tommies moved into a tie for the league lead with Saint Benedict. … UST enters tonight's game vs. Saint Mary's riding a three-game winning streak. … The Tommies are 23-5 in February games over the last three seasons. … Rachel Booth's season-high 28 points on Monday at St. Olaf pushed her season average to a team-leading 10.9 ppg. UST has a balanced attack with six players scoring between 6.3 and 10.9 ppg. … The Tommies have held their 16 conference opponents under 56 ppg. … UST has won 17 of its last 21 road games against conference opponents. … Tommie head coach Ruth Sinn (99-55) needs one win to hit 100 in her six-year run. … Jazmin Townsend had played in all 103 games on her career.
