Augsburg Invitational Results
HAM LAKE, Minn. — For the Saint Mary's University men's golf team, what a difference a day makes.
Less than 24 hours after struggling to a 350 total, the Cardinals shaved 25 strokes off their team score during Sunday's final round of the 36-hole Augsburg Invitational.
“It was fabulous to see the guys turn it around,” said SMU assistant coach Ryan Egan, whose Cardinals placed 21st in the team standings. “They played much more like they are capable of playing today.”
Ethan Austin (Northbrook, Ill.) turned in SMU's first round in the 70s, carding a four-over-par 76 to lead the Cardinals' second-day charge. Austin finished the two-day tournament with a 159 total.
Tim Wolford (Maple Grove, Minn.) clipped eight strokes off his opening-round 88, finishing with an 80 and a 168 total.
D.J. Borgen (Red Wing, Minn.) shot 82 Sunday for a 171 total, while
Bobby Glynn (Orland Park, Ill. / 90-87—177) and
Mike Schaber (Blaine, Minn. / 96-102—198) rounded out the Cardinals' top five.
Saint John's won the team title, shooting a six-over-par 289-293—582 to beat runner-up University of Manitoba by 12 shots. University of Manitoba's Josh Wytinck was the tournament's individual medalist, carding rounds of 73-68—141 to edge UW-Eau Claire's Tim McCormick by two shots.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday and Sunday, traveling to Sauk Rapids, Minn., to take part in the Saint John's Invitational.
