WINONA, Minn. —
Lexi Assimos (Northbrook, Ill.) enjoyed a week that just kept getting better with each match the Saint Mary's University volleyball team played.
The Cardinal sophomore setter opened the week with a 34-set performance against St. Catherine, and closed out her week with back-to-back 51-set efforts — helping SMU to three wins in their five matches last weekend, and earning Assimos Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Setter of the Week honors.
Along with her 34 assists, Assimos also garnered four kills, nine digs and two blocks against St. Catherine last Wednesday, then followed that up with 148 assists, 11 kills, 21 digs and eight blocks en route to earning all-tournament honors at the Ripon Red Hawk Invitational over the weekend.
Assimos kicked off tournament play with 46 assists in a 3-2 victory over Lakeland, then followed that up with 51 assists against both Coe and Marian. The 51 assists marked the third and fourth time this season Assimos has recorded 50 or more assists, and was just two assists shy of her career high.
For the season, Assimos has dished out 447 assists (9.72 assists-per-set), while adding 48 kills, 97 digs and 18 blocks in helping the Cardinals to a 10-5 overall record.
The Cardinals host St. Olaf in a key 7 p.m. conference match on Wednesday, before traveling to Dubuque, Iowa, for the University of Dubuque Tournament Friday and Saturday.
