MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team hits the road Saturday, as the Cardinals travel to Concordia for a 3 p.m. Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown against the Cobbers

The Cardinals ran into a buzz-saw Tuesday evening, as 20th-ranked Gustavus scored twice in the first half and three time sin the second in handing SMU a 5-0 conference setback at Ochrymowycz Field. … Concordia, meanwhile, had similar issues on the road at St. Thomas Tuesday, as the Tommies handed the Cobbers a 4-1 MIAC setback in St Paul, Minn.

October 2, 2010: The Cardinals got caught flat-footed on a breakaway, and gave Concordia a great opportunity off a second-half corner — and the Cobbers took advantage of both, as they handed SMU a 2-1 MIAC setback Saturday at Ochrymowycz Field.

The Cardinals return home and step out of conference play on Tuesday, as SMU hosts UW-Superior in a 7 p.m. game that was originally scheduled to play in Superior, Wis., but due to poor field conditions has been shifted to Ochrymowycz Field. … Concordia, meanwhile, is off until next Saturday, when the Cobbers host Macalester in a 3 p.m. conference game.

Saturday's game at Concordia begins a stretch of three road games in their next four contests for the Cardinals. … Tuesday's 5-0 loss to nationally ranked Gustavus marked the first time in eight contests that the game has not been decided by one goal or less. … Goalkeeper Chris Williams (Chicago, Ill.) put together his second straight seven-save performance against the Gusties Tuesday. The effort was one shy of his season-high eight saves, recording vs. Lake Forest on Sept. 2. … Christian Van Dam (Livonia, Mich.) made his first collegiate appearance in goal Tuesday — relieving Williams late in the second half vs. Gustavus. Unfortunately for the Cardinal freshman, the lone shot he faced was a penalty kick, which the Gusties converted. … Van Dam's appearance snapped a streak of 748:23 consecutive minutes played by Williams, who enters Saturday's contest at Concordia with a 1.56 goals-against-average, while making 39 saves. … After going his first three seasons without recording a shutout, Williams has two this season — blanking North Central (Minn.) on Sept. 6 and Grinnell on Sept. 11. … Juamaine Venter (Rochester, Minn.) scored the Cardinals' goal vs. St. Thomas on Sept. 14 — it was his team-leading second of the season and 10th of his collegiate career. … Both of the Cardinals' last two goals has come off a corner kick.
