MENOMONIE, Wis. — Taking part in their largest meet of the season Saturday afternoon, the Saint Mary's University track and field coach Shawn McMahon got to kick back and watch, as several Cardinals shined on the large stage.
Bethany Schmidt (Sparta, Wis.) placed third in the 600 (1:42.88) and
Kassondra Burtis (Fairmont, Minn.) was sixth in the weight throw (14.53 meters) to lead the way for the Cardinal women, while Gabe Thiel's (Elgin, Minn.) eighth-place showing in the 800 led the way for the SMU men in the non-team-scored event.
Regina Quandt (Minneapolis, Minn.) recorded a time of 2:32.21 to place eighth in the 800, while Rebecca Iten (Fridley, Minn.) was 12th in the pole vault (2.65 meters) and
Katie Stolz was 16th in the mile (5:46.85).
Along with Thiel's effort in the 800, the Cardinal men also got a ninth-place effort from Jake Traxler (Le Center, Minn.) in the mile (4:33.03).
The Cardinals are back in action next Saturday, taking part in the UW-Superior Border Battle in Superior, Wis.
