WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's hockey closes out its two-game MIAC series vs. Bethel Saturday, hosting the Royals in a 7:30 p.m. contest at the SMU Ice Arena.

Bethel scored three goals in the third period, erasing a 3-2 Saint Mary's lead and handing the Cardinals a 5-3 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback Friday evening at Bethel Arena in Blaine, Minn.

SMU vs. Bethel — A Year Ago:
January 21, 2011: The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their MIAC against Bethel, but they could not hold the two-goal advantage, as Bethel scored three unanswered goals in handing SMU a 4-3 conference setback at the SMU Ice Arena.
January 22, 2011: Kevin Wentland (Columbia Heights, Minn.) scored with 30 seconds remaining in regulation, as the Cardinals rallied from a 3-1 deficit to earn a 4-4 tie with the Royals at the Schwan's Super Rink.

Up Next:
The Cardinals square off against St. Thomas next weekend, hosting the Tommies in a 7:30 p.m. MIAC contest on Friday, then traveling to the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn., for the 7 p.m. rematch on Saturday. … Bethel, meanwhile, takes on St. Olaf next weekend, hosting St. Olaf at 7 p.m. at the Schwan's Super Rink on Friday, then traveling to the Northfield Ice Arena for a 7:30 p.m. game on Saturday.

Despite Friday's loss at Bethel, the Cardinals enter Saturday's rematch with the Royals having gone 3-2 in their last five games. … Last Saturday's 3-2 win over sixth-ranked and defending national champion St. Norbert was the Cardinals' second win over a nationally ranked team this season. SMU downed then-eighth ranked Milwaukee School of Engineering 2-1 in overtime on Nov. 22. … Eight of SMU's 14 games have been decided by one goal. … Jed McGlasson (Kenai, Alaska) had a goal and an assist to pace the Cardinals' offensive attack vs. Bethel Friday. … McGlasson's goal was the first of his collegiate career. … Austin Balko (Midland, Mich.) and Nick Nagel (Andover, Minn.) accounted for SMU's other two goals vs. the Royals Friday. … Balko and Nagel have each now scored in back-to-back games. Friday's game against Saint Mary's was the fifth straight home game for the Royals, who are 4-3 on their home ice this season. … The Royals snapped a two-game losing streak with Friday's 5-3 win over Saint Mary's. … After opening the season with five straight losses, the Royals went 5-3 in their next eight games, before dropping back-to-back games to UW-Stout and St. Thomas last weekend. … The Tommies' nine goals last Saturday were the most allowed by Bethel this season. … Jake Kogler scored a pair of goals Friday vs. Saint Mary's, giving him the team lead in goals (10) and points (15). … Chaz Gerads, Jack Paul and Jimmie Perkins accounted for Bethel's other three goals vs. the Cardinals Friday, while Fiala assisted on three of the team's five goals. … Kogler is one of four BU players with 10 or more points through 16 games.
