ST. PAUL, Minn. — Mark Ross (Dubuque, Iowa) and Anna Smaron (Maple Plain, Minn.) got a pair of busy weekends underway on Friday, as the Saint Mary's University duo were the lone Cardinal swimmers to compete during the opening day of the two-day St. Thomas Invitational.

Ross posted an eighth-place finish in the men's 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:41.06, while Smaron stopped the clock in 5:34.08 in the women's 400 IM. In the three-meter diving competitions, Alex Zappa (Richfield, Minn.) posted 107.65 points, while Sarah Jansen (Manitowoc, Wis.) finished with 112.95 points and Danielle Swanson (Oak Grove, Minn.) tallied 102.20 points for the SMU women.

The rest of the Cardinal squads will join Ross and Smaron on Saturday, as the SMU men and women's teams once again compete at the St. Thomas Invitational.
