ST. PAUL, Minn. — After giving fans a glimpse of what to expect with his effort in the 400 IM Friday, Saint Mary's University's
Mark Ross (Dubuque, Iowa) was back at it again Saturday during the second day of the St. Thomas Invitational.
Ross, who posted an eighth-place finish in the men's 400 IM — touching the wall in 4:41.06 — picked up a fifth- and two more eighth-place showings on Saturday to lead the Cardinal men to a sixth-place finish. The SMU women, behind the efforts of Anna Smaron (Maple Plain, Minn.) and Nikki Farmer (Medford, Wis.), placed eighth.
Ross clocked a time of 2:04.10 to finish fifth in the 200 backstroke, then added eighth-place times of 2:08.84 and 56.93 in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, respectively.
P.J. Heller (St. Cloud, Minn.) also had a busy afternoon, posting a time of 24.06 in the 50 freestyle, a 53.58 in the 100 freestyle and a 1:11.12 in the 100 breaststroke.
Smaron and Farmer led the charge for the Cardinal women, as Smaron who stopped the clock in 5:34.08 in the women's 400 IM on Friday — added a time of 1:16.5 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:48.17 in the 200 breaststroke, while Farmer recorded a time of 2:07.64 in the 200 freestyle.
The Cardinals are now off until Jan. 12, when they host the SMU Alumni Meet at the Jul Gernes Pool.
