December 3, 2011: The Cardinal men, led by Mark Ross (Dubuque, Iowa) and Neil Heacox (San Diego, Calif.), placed fifth at the St. Thomas Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., while the SMU women, behind the efforts of Linda Tierney (Cloquet, Minn.), recorded a seventh-place showing.

Saint Mary's is now off until Jan. 12, when the Cardinals honoring their graduating seniors at the SMU Alumni Meet at the Jul Gernes Pool.

Mark Ross (Dubuque, Iowa) led the way for the Cardinal men in their dual meet against Macalester on Nov. 16, picking up first-place finishes in both the 200 freestyle (1:56.01) and 100 backstroke (57.62). … Ross followed up that effort by placing third in both the 100 backstroke (57.17) and 200 backstroke (2:04.11), while adding a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:58.62). … P.J. Heller (St. Cloud, Minn.) finished third against the Scots in the 100 freestyle (53.48). … Heller chipped in a fifth in the 50 freestyle (24.14) and an 11th in 100 breaststroke (1:11.72) at Macalester Invitational. … Nikki Farmer (Medford, Wis.) posted a winning time of 1:09.18 in the 100 backstroke and Tina Wahl (Elgin, Ill.) was third in the 100 butterfly (1:20.67) to pace the Cardinal women in their dual-meet loss to Macalester on Nov. 16. … The SMU women's 200 medley relay team of Farmer, Anna Smaron (Maple Plain, Minn.), Wahl and Ashling Meehan (Glenview, Ill.) were fifth with a time of 2:08.34 at the Macalester Invitational on Nov. 17. … Smaron added a 12th in the 200 breaststroke (2:49.70), while Anne Raecker (Cedar Falls, Iowa) was 12th in the 500 freestyle (6:27.04) and Wahl was 12th in the 200 IM (2:46.47).
