Pointer Invite Results
STEVENS POINT, Wis. — In a meet filled with top-notch talent, the Saint Mary's University track and field teams had some athletes turn in some top-notch performances of their own Saturday afternoon at the UW-Stevens Point Pointer Invitational.
Led by the performances of
Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn.),
Bethany Schmidt (Sparta, Wis.) and
Kassondra Burtis (Fairmont, Minn.), the SMU women placed ninth, while the Cardinal men, behind the efforts of Jake Traxler (Le Center, Minn.) and Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.), recorded a 13th-place team finish.
“It was a very good day for us,” said SMU coach Shawn McMahon. “We had some very solid performances. This was a pretty big meet with some very talented athletes.
“It was good to see some of our people step up and strut their stuff a bit.”
Booker certainly made her presence felt, as the junior won the shot put event, uncorking a toss of 12.60 meters. Schmidt chipped in a second-place time of 2:24.15 in the 800, while Burtis added a seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 13.74 meters.
On the men's side, it was the distance runners who took center stage, as Traxler and Haley finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 5000, with Traxler crossing the finish line in 15:48.39, just in front of Haley's time of 15:48.82. John Soucheray (Woodbury, Minn.) finished 13th in the 5000 (16:18.78), while David Feather (Oak Creek, Wis.) added a 13th in the 3000 (9:26.76).
The Cardinals are back in action next Friday, as they host the Cardinal Open at the Gostomski Fieldhouse.
