Kircher, Borash, Booker highlight busy night for Cardinals

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University track and field teams kicked off their final week before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships Wednesday, taking part in the Tommie Twilight and Concordia-St. Paul Invitational.

Tyler Kircher (Cashton, Wis.) and Peter Borash (Bowlus, Minn.) led the way for the SMU men at the Concordia-St. Paul Invitational, as Kircher placed sixth in the hammer throw (44.34 meters) and Borash was seventh in the 1,500 (4;00.76).

Jake Traxler (Le Center, Minn.) and Gus Wiggert (La Crosse, Wis) each added 10th-place finishes, with Traxler stopping the clock in 4:07.04 in the 1,500, while Wiggert uncorked a throw of 12.51 meters in the shot put. Wigger also placed 11th in the hammer throw (38.77) and Aaron Haley (Plainview, Minn.) was 14th in the 1,500 (4;16.04).

While the men were competing across town at the Concordia-St. Paul Invitational, the SMU women were taking part in the Tommie Twilight, with Coco Booker (St. Paul, Minn.) leading the Cardinals' charge with a seventh-place showing in the shot put (12.21 meters). Kassondra Burtis (Fairmont, Minn.) and Katie Stolz (Forest Lake, Minn.) chipped in 10th-place efforts in the hammer throw (42.04 meters) and the steeplechase (12:22.18), respectively, with Laura Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn.) adding a 14th in the 100 (14.19) and a 15th in the 200 (27.27).

The Cardinals hit the road on Saturday for their final meet before next weekend's MIAC Outdoor Championships, traveling to Madison, Wis., to take part in the University of Wisconsin Invitational.
