WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team notched its fourth 25-23 victory of the season in the second set of its second match of the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic Friday evening.

That, however, was as close as the Cardinals would let Simpson get, as SMU cruised to its second sweep of the tournament, beating the Storm 3-0.

Coming off a 3-0 sweep against Edgewood that was decided by three straight 25-23 Saitn Mary's wins, the Cardinals made things look a little easier against the Storm, winning the opener 25-17. After their fourth 25-23 win of the day in Set 2, SMU cruised to a 25-19 win in the third set to seal the win.

Carissa Hahn (Hutchinson, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals, banging out 10 kills, while Lexi Assimos (Northbrook, Ill.) finished with 28 assists. Lex Krogstad (Chicago, Ill.) collected 11 digs to lead a trio of Cardinals with 10 or more digs. Hahn and Megan Leisen (Kellogg, Minn.) each chipped in 10.

Steph Keller had nine kills and Katie Kieffer finished with 20 assists for Simpson (0-1).

The Cardinals close out the two-day tournament on Saturday, taking on Nebraska Wesleyan (noon) and Luther (4 p.m.)
