WINONA, Minn. — If there's one thing that can be said about the Saint Mary's University volleyball team in its season-opening performance against Edgewood, it's that the Cardinals were consistent.
SMU opened play in the Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic by beating the Eagles 3-0 — with all three sets being decided by the identical 25-23 score.
Molly Grover (Zumbrota, Minn.) and
Megan Leisen (Kellogg, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals, collecting 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Grover hit .261 en route to her match-high 11 kills, while
Mary Nordick (Plymouth, Minn.) chipped in a .294 attack percentage.
Lexi Assimos (Northbrook, Ill.) dished out 33 assists, while
Lex Krogstad (Chicago, Ill.) collected 24 digs in her first collegiate match.
Mallory Palmer finished with 10 kills and Lindsey Swansby recorded 31 assists for Edgewood, which was coming off its first NCAA Tournament appearance a year ago.
