ST. PAUL, Minn. — Riding the momentum of back-to-back wins Saturday during the final day of the Bethany Lutheran Tournament, the Saint Mary's University volleyball team made it look easy Wednesday evening in their conference opener against Macalester.
Fueled by a trio of players with 10 or more kills, the Cardinals kicked off Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a convincing 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-20) victory over the Scots at the Leonard Center.
Mary Nordick (Plymouth, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals' offense, collecting 12 kills, while hitting .269.
Jenna Sullivan (Woodbury, Minn.) and
Colleen Seba (Maple Grove, Minn.) each chipped in 10 kills, as the Cardinals collected 50 kills in the 3-set match, while hitting .234.
Lexi Assimos (Northbrook, Ill.) dished out 34 assists and recorded 12 digs, while
Lex Krogstad (Chicago, Ill.) finished with a team-best 13 digs and three service aces.
The Cardinals (1-0 MIAC, 6-4 overall) — who have now opened their conference season with a win in each of the last three seasons — are off until next Wednesday, when they host St. Catherine in a 7 p.m. conference match at the SMU Gym.
