NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team is back in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, traveling to St. Olaf for a 1 p.m. game against the Oles.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 first-half lead, scored the game-tying goal with less than three minutes remaining in regulation, but couldn't complete the upset bid as unbeaten St. Thomas scored 15 seconds into overtime to beat SMU 4-3 Wednesday at Ochryowycz Field. … St. Olaf, meanwhile, scored its only goal in the first half in settling for a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Gustavus in the teams' conference opener Wednesday in Northfield, Minn.

September 17, 2011: The Cardinals held undefeated and high-powered St. Olaf to just one goal in the team's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown at Ochrymowycz Field. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, that one goal was all that St. Olaf needed, as the Oles scored the game's only goal 14 minutes into the second half to beat the Cardinals 1-0.

Wednesday's conference-opening 1-1 tie against Gustavus snapped the Oles' two—game losing streak. … After scoring six goals in back-to-back wins over Northwestern (3-0) and Pacific Lutheran (3-2) to open the season, St. Olaf has netted just two goals in its last three games combined. … Saturday's game against Saint Mary's is the third straight home game for the Oles, who play five of their first six and seven of their first 10 games on their home turf. … Ken Ouren scored his first collegiate goal to account for St. Olaf's scoring vs. Gustavus Wednesday. … Ryan Johnson is the team's goal-scoring leader with two, while David Rosenthal has assisted on a team-best four of the Oles' eight goals.
