MANKATO, Minn. — What a difference a day makes.

Less than 24 hours after failing to win a set in falling to UW-Superior and Wartburg Friday evening during the opening round of the Bethany Lutheran Tournament, the Saint Mary's University volleyball team got back on the winning track Saturday.

And did so in impressive fashion.

The Cardinals cruised to a 3-1 win over UW-Oshkosh, before taking out host Bethany Lutheran 3-0.

“We played so much better today,” said SMU coach Mike Lester. “Not that we played all that poorly (Friday) — I thought we played very well against Wartburg, they were a tough, tough team.

“It's good to see us bounce back the way we did,” Lester added. “Coming off back-to-back 3-0 losses, it could have been easy to come out flat (against Oshkosh), but everyone was focused and determined — it was a great effort.”

Molly Nordick (Plymouth, Minn.) led the Cardinals' charge in their opening match against UW-Oshkosh Saturday, as the sophomore recorded 13 kills, hit .333 and collected seven blocks. Colleen Seba (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Jenna Sullivan (Woodbury, Minn.) each chipped in a career-high 11 kills, while Lexi Assimos (Northbrook, Ill.) finished with 45 assists, and Lex Krogstad (Chicago, Ill.) and Cathy Rennie (Pine Island, Minn.) posted 26 and 17 digs, respectively.

Setting a career-best with 11 kills against UW-Oshkosh wasn't enough for Sullivan, as the freshman racked up a new career-high 13 kills and hit .458 against Bethany Lutheran. Krogstad delivered 13 digs and four services aces, while Carissa Hahn (Hutchinson, Minn.) chipped in seven kills.

The Cardinals (5-4 overall) kick off Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, traveling to St. Paul, Minn., for a 7 p.m. match against Macalester.
