MIAC Release
WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's basketball team enjoyed a perfect week last week — thanks in large part to the play of senior post
Jamie Stefely (Lisle, Ill.).
Stefely averaged 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in leading the Cardinals to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wins over St. Olaf and Augsburg — wins that kept the Cardinals in the hunt for the regular-season conference title.
And Stefely's effort did not go unnoticed, as Stefely was named MIAC Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Stefely kicked off her week with 11 points and seven rebounds in SMU's 68-56 win over St. Olaf on Wednesday, then followed that up with a 20-point, 12-rebound showing as the Cardinals improved to 9-3 in conference play with a 59-53 overtime victory over Augsburg on Saturday.
Stefely, who has now scored 20 or more points three times this season — and six times in her collegiate career — has posted a team-leading three double-doubles this season and enters Monday's showdown at Hamline leading the team in both scoring (12.6 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rpg).
The Cardinals (9-3 MIAC, 12-3 overall) have three big MIAC games this week, sandwiching road contests at Hamline (Monday) and St. Catherine (Saturday) around a Wednesday showdown at the SMU Gym with league-leading and nationally ranked St. Thomas.
